Gee, can one use a write on an internally described printer file, without
specifying a datastructure? No.

If you do not assign an overflow indicator does one get assigned for you?
Only on internally defined printer files.

*RNF2318 00 a 000100 Overflow indicator *INOA is assigned to PRINTER
file

I guess the question is, does he have an overflow indicator assigned then
because he must have a external printer file.

Printer Overflow and BIF'sHi Jim,

The manual states "An error occurs if overflow is reached to an externally
described print file and no overflow indicator has been specified on the
File description specification." It doesn't say what it will do for an
internally-describer print file, with or without the overflow indicator
specified. Which did you have, internal or external? And did you specify an
overflow indicator?

Curious,

From: Sneddon, Jim
I've been using the BIFs for file I/O (with chains and writes and reads on
data files) successfully for a couple of months now and I thought I'd be
clever and do the same for a printer file....
c if %error
c do overflow stuff
c write (e) PrintFile
c else
c write (e) PrintFile
c endif
Actually I tried it this way too:
c write (e) PrintFile
c if %error
c do overflow stuff
c endif

Either way I get overflow errors.... I re-wrote it using the old OFLIND
method without any problems.
Obviously %error doesn't work on printer files. Is there something I'm
missing or a different BIF I can use?
Thanks for your time,
