Andrew,

I would say that those articles fit different needs. The September article
shows how to use QtmmSendMail, which uses QzmfCrtMailMsg under the
covers. The November article uses the QzmfCrtMailMsg api directly.
Because of this the article published in November makes is more flexible,
but for attachments, the QtmmSendMail API is easier. For SMTP mail
(7 bit ascii like this email) it is easier to use the QzmfCrtMailMsg.

That said, I would not use either in a mission critical high volume situation.
You
have probably seen a lot of questions on the various news groups and Midrange-L
from people trying to get mail out of the AS/400's SMTP server. If you really
need reliable email you should buy a package or learn about sockets and
the SMTP/MIME protocols.

In response to those questioning the value in a subscription, I have
responded to over 200 people asking for help configuring SMTP, firewalls,
and POP servers, since writing that article for News 400. Without some sort
of remuneration, I could not have justified the time to respond to all of those
requests.

The September code is probably the better of the two choices for the
following reason;

1) This uses the QTMMSENDMAIL api - and that is funky
2) The Sept version can have any subject/E-mail from address etc...
3) The Sept Version writes the info to the IFS, fully formatted in a Mime
compatible "read it with any E-mail" format.

To tell the truth (thinking about it) I don't even remember the November
code that well... but I remember that the Sept Code was more generic...

As far as "paying" for the information ... EVERY penny I spend on my
learning has paid off, and eventually saved me $$ in the long run.
