Hi Marcin,

Your way is better, if you only wanted to delete the records. My example was
based on the premise that the "deleted" records were
to be archived to tape before being deleted off the system. And I was trying
to prevent the same records ending up on different
archive tapes.
(eq. - run program, save BKUPFILE to tape1, CLRPFM BKUPFILE, wait a month or
so, run program, save BKUPFILE to tape2, CLRPFM
BKUPFILE, etc. )

Regards,

Terry

Why not

H
FORIGFILE IP E DISK
FBKUPFILE O E DISK
C IF TIMESTAMP > YYYYMMDD
C WRITE BKUPFILE
C ENDIF

and then rename files to corect names?

C DELETE ORIGFILE

It's not pretty, and it's not the fastest. But if you compile it and run it
in batch, it will be done before everyone is finished
discussing it. <G>

sounds good, but I can't create a logical on timestamp alone. As then I
would have many duplicate keys. as there are 40,000 employee numbers each
with many timestamps.
