You can use frontpage for 80% of the HTML editing, then the AS/400 needs to have that info in it's craw before it'll work. What CGI uses is Standard In/Standard Out processing. So the stream is received into RPG using standard IN, and it manipulates the data. An API runs to convert the fields found in the incoming stream into a data structure. The structure is manipulated, and an HTML stream is sent back out using the Standard out API on the AS/400. The initial HTML needs to reside on the AS/400 in the IFS, or in a source file of some sort. When the HTTP server fires up, it looks to a welcome file to say "HI - I'm here" and from there your conversation with the server begins. The "Submit button" is hit, and that info from the open page inside the browser is parsed into the bits the RPG program understands. Do dis make sense? If I can do it, anyone can.
