I'm sure everyone's first question (especially on this list) is why would
you want to?

Next point is that if you visit www.midrange.com, I believe there is a
COBOL-L list where you're more likely to get a sympathetic ear.

But aside from all that, IBM's online COBOL User's Guide has several sample
programs in the appendices:
