Mark,

As always in situations like these, the answer is 'it depends'.  It is easy
enough to create situations where either method outperforms the other.  But
there are other things to consider:

- Which method is easier to code/decipher (we often use OPNQRYF because the
following RPG program (which normally reads this file as primary) can be
very simple)?

- Should there be a 'shop standard'?  It would seem logical that programs
created by one programmer should look immediately familiar to other
programmers within the company.
