The terms RPG III & RPG IV relate to the language definitions. (If RPG was a
non-proprietary language, these might be ISO or ANSI standards).

RPG/400 is the AS/400 implementation of an RPG III compiler (although I
believe there are some differences between the original RPG III on the S/38
and the AS/400 version).

ILE RPG/400 is the AS/400 implementation of an RPG IV compiler.

Everyone uses the term RPG IV (except the IBM manuals of course) because it
makes more sense.
