Still not clear. Are you saying because C may be used to write compilers, virtual machine, engines, or is the basis of syntax for these other languages that makes C the root of the languages? That box is already owned by pandora. (BTW, CGI is not a programming laguange). > > Continuing in my effort to be clear, I am not opposed to RPG > in these roles > nor do I assert that RPG cannot do well in these roles. > Based on personal > experience, it is my opinion that C, Java, etc are the > current winners. What is your experiences based upon? I'm not mocking here, I'm serious. Maybe we're coming from two different angles alltogether which is why we view this differently. Just for the record, my experience comes from working in a variety of business applications and companies ranging from startup to billions of dollars a year. The majority by far is cold fusion running on NT with MS IIS servers and SQL DB. And a splash of linux for firewall/proxy. After fighting with trying to get data between NT and AS/400, and since all our back end systems are AS/400, the use of the AS/400 for web serving is proving most benificial and a worthy cause. I'm not saying if you're using NT to switch to AS/400 and eRPG. I'm saying if you're using AS/400, use AS/400 for your web server. > Being "swayed by the majority" is what I > keep trying to > tell you about. The majority of web servers are Unix, C, > Java, and CGI. Don't make me ask for your sources of this info. We already went through this thread on Midrange-L. :) > I > am swayed. When RPG takes over the world, I will report that, in my > opinion, RPG has taken over the world. Still not clear. I think you have your terms web server, CGI language, etc. mixed up. I assume you meant to say "RPG has not taken over the world." Otherwise you'd be using e-RPG according to your statement. ;) > > I don't care about the boxes or the languages (because they > don't care back) > but I do care about the people. I wish you well. Keep > helping people use > RPG in this role. Don't try to blow smoke, it is unbecoming. But you just said you did care about the box/language because the majority use C, Unix, Java, etc. And I quote: "Based on personal experience, it is my opinion that C, Java, etc are the current winners. I will advise customers and make personal training and career decisions based on that opinion." Who's blowing smoke? Peace, brother, we can have differences of opinions and still exist in the same universe.
