I too prefer the second option. But I have a 3rd possibility (there is always another possibility, int it?) IF %OMIT(Error) This would be more consistant with the way other thing are done. I must say I like the second, which of course is not valid. Can IBM make the compiler smart enough to see the special value *OMIT and check the address of the variable for *NULL behind the scenes?
