Dan, The only reason I think this is a good idea is because I've been in shops where they do this and shops where they haven't. In all cases it has been much faster and easier to write programs in shops that do. Productivity goes up dramatically if this is done right. I was able to write a new program in a matter of 10 minutes doing it this way using about 15 lines of code, rather than spending days reinventing the wheel and using 250 lines of code. I actually had some programs for file updates that literally took about 5 lines of code that was full featured.
