Actually, we are running into this with SQL tables that have fields defined
straight numeric or character.
It's like RPG ignores the default value setting on the fields within the
file. If we do SQL inserts to the files the defaults are used.
I've tried both clearing and not clearing the record format name before
populating fields (other than those with the default) and executing the
write. We still get either blanks or zeros in the fields defined to have
default values other than blank or zero.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Brian Ellis.

All,

I created a table via sql/400 and defined a date field
with a default value of 1970-12-15. When I insert a
record in the file, without referencing the date
field, using UPDDTA and SQL, the default value is
inserted into the date field. However, when I use
RPG, the value inserted into the date field is
0001-01-01. I use datfmt(*iso) on an h-spec.

Does this work in RPGIV? Or is there a compile option
or h-spec that I need to use? I have this problem on
two as/400's and both are at v4r4.

TIA,

Phil
