>> The problem with using a static variable is that if the service program is running in the default activation group and RCLRSC is run, the files are closed but static variables are not changed. This is one of a number of very good reasons why you should never run Service Programs in the default AG. They are just not designed to work in that environment and you'll get yourself in a mess really easily (or rather some maintenance programmer who tries to make a small change to your application will get in the mess). Barbara Morris, myself and others in earlier posts on this list have explained the in-and-outs of this so I won't repeat it. I suggest you check the archives and you'll understand why this is a really bad idea. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
