Dan, I believe this request has been submitted to IBM repeatedly since the early days of the /38, but they haven't been able to deliver it yet. I don't know what the technical obstacles are, but I'm not optimistic about ever getting it. Since SQL's concepts of permanent "Views" and "Indices" don't provide for anything quite like a keyed join logical, I wouldn't expect it to appear from that quarter. Or is this not technically possible? IMHO, yes, we _should_ be able to specify key fields from non-primary files in the join logical. It can be done in OPNQRYF, in WRKQRY, and, I imagine, in SQL. I think this should have been made available in DDS a long time ago. Alas, it may be too late to get IBM to do anything with it now, since all enhancements appear to be made to SQL and not DDS. For better or for worse.
