This is not exactly a reply, but may be interesting the general context. A
couple of months ago my company invited a couple of IBM reps in to do a
presentation on WebSphere. We are an AS/400 shop (applications, web
server, etc.), and we also run a Novell network. We have a single NT
server because our third-party payroll system requires it -- in other
words, not much M$ past the desktop.

Anyway, their whole presentation was geared towards Unix, NT, etc. Their
graphic showing how many platforms WebSphere will run on didn't even
mention the AS/400. When we pointed out that that's what we use, their
response was, "Well, you could set this up on an NT box and pull all your
data down from the 400". We basically looked at them and said, "Why would
we want to do that?". I can see going into a shop that is using something
else and trying to convince them that WebSphere would work on their setup,
but it was like they were begging us to buy non-IBM products to use it on.
When we asked AS/400-specific questions, they had no clue -- and they
_were_ IBM reps! (at least, they had business cards with the IBM logo on
them. . . .)

From other things I've read on the list, maybe we shouldn't have been
surprised. . . .
