Bryan,

If you have Advance Function Printing Utilities then I would create an
Overlay for the back page and place a page segment on that overlay. In
order to create the page segment on the system;

Create a temporary file with the maximum record length.

Install the AFP drivers that comes with Client Access.

Setup a printer on your PC using the IBM AFP 3812.

Print the image from MS Paint or the equivalent using the printer created
above.
Select Properties on the printer and specify a Page Segment and to print to
a file.

Copy this file to your AS/400 using the CPYFRMPCD to your temp file.

Use the CRTPAGSEG to create the page segment from the temp file.

Use OVRPRTF or CRTPRTF/CHGPRTF to specify a back overlay (BACKOVL).

If you don't have APF utilities you still are not lost. I've also done this
just using MS Word to embed the image into the overlay itself and send it up
the same way. However the image came out a little fuzzy. The only thing
that changes above is you specify an overlay on the printer properties and
use the CRTOVL from the temp file.

Clear as mud. Maybe this will give you an alternative way.

I need to print a map image (in TIFF) format as the back page of an IPDS
document. Anybody out there that has done this willing to share their
experience?

Is the convert image api the way to go, or is there an easier or better
method for doing this?

The map image resides (or at least it will soon) on the IFS
