Rick, >Can anyone point us to some information to get us started? I'd recommend the article "Getting Started with DSM Input Fields", published by Midrange Computing in June 1999. It was written by Gene Gaunt. It also included a real nifty utility that uses the Virtual Terminal APIs to perform a trace of the 5250 data streams during a session. The trace listing parses the data stream and labels each component. VERY slick! It is good not only for debugging DSM, but you can use it to see the data streams from a regular session as well. Highly recommended.
