1) You are not creating, or clearing, a physical file member to store the list. There is less overhead to a user space. 2) You don't have to break out of RPG, or call QCMDEXC (or it's brethren) to execute a DSPFD 3) All input from the userspace can be sped up by using pointers (don't use QUSRTVUS) versus record i/o I haven't time clocked it. But sooner or later you really should use the list API's. And this is such a simple one. For samples on how to use the list API's check out: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/SG245402.html http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/v4r5/ic2924/info/apis/api.htm Rob Berendt ================== Remember the Cole! How about a 5 member file? I'm sure it's faster, but at what point does the interactive response time difference start to pay off? > -----Original Message----- > From: rob@dekko.com [mailto:rob@dekko.com] > Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2000 9:33 AM > To: RPG400-L@midrange.com > Subject: Re: Member Names > > > > > If you're not paranoid of learning something new, then a list > API is your > best bet.
