Kind of. You can use statements without host variables. You can pass host variables directly to an SQL statement. You cannot retrieve host variables directly from an SQL statement. A common way to execute SQL from within CL is to use Query Management Query. This does not require the SQL licensed program. However the SQL licensed program does add a nice prompter to it. We've used the above technique to give us a nice command called RUNSQL to use from CL. Actually we got it out of an ancient issue of News/400. Member creation date of source is 10/91. Consists of three objects created with the following commands: CRTCMD, CRTCLPGM and CRTQMQRY. Give us your problem/statement. We'll fix you right up.
