I dunno what system it was running on.  I just told him that I'd have to do some 'creative' programming to handle the COMP-6 data (the appended x'0F' trick mentioned in other postings).  He said he'd just convert the data to COMP-3 instead.

Didn't IBM drop support for RM-COBOL at some version or another of OS/400?
I did look at a package in the early 80's written in that.

AS400 _currently_ only supports signed packed.  Luckily, I was able to get
the RM-COBOL programmer to change the data type in his program.

There is a Computational Class 6 (COMP-6) supported by RM-COBOL which is
Unsigned Packed Decimal and I have to read that data in RPG.
