Personally, I much prefer a statement terminator (semi-colon or whatever) over a statement continuation option because I may more easily insert into a long condition or evaluation statement. I think a statement terminator is required by most compilers (either a end of line/ carriage return/ or special character). If I remember correctly, you need a backslash or something in Visual Basic to let the compiler know that your statement takes more than one line.
