Define Null before PN and the statement Eval dh = OpenDir( PN ) will not work. It only works because PN is null terminated do to the way you defined your constants. From the Help Text: *STRING means that you can pass character strings where a basing pointer is expected. When a pointer parameter is prototyped with OPTIONS(*STRING), then either a pointer or a character expression can be specified as the passed parameter. If a character expression is specified, then the compiler will copy the value of the expression to a temporary pointer and add a null-terminator at the end. Then it will pass the address of this temporary pointer to the called procedure. Christopher K.
