You can use variable names for a file's member as a solution.  Use a fixed 
file name and then name the members anyway you want, using substring or 
whatever you happen to like.

The answer could be SQL, OPNQRYF, OVRDBF or even CPYF!  (I'll post some 
ReXX
code to do this in the Midrange-L list)  Now that you can read records 
from
any file, what are you going to do with those records?  This is an problem
indeed!

I think there have been discussions on this before; perhaps the archives 
at
http://www.midrange.com would be helpful?
