I could/will tell you the answer, but your question leads me to think you
need to do some reading on the basic properties of moving data from/to
num->Char  Char->Num.

Of course the alpha version will not have a sign. What did you expect? A
floating negative sign before the 800? a negative sign at the end? A "CR"
at the end? The Move opcode does not make any of those assumptions. It
moves the bytes one at a time, Right most byte of the source to the right
most byte of the target. No assumptions.

Try EVAL CHAR = %EDITC(NUM:J)

If you don't use RPGIV, then settle for not being able to do neat stuff
like this.
It would be another reason why you should.

Hello

I have a Numeric Field of Length 11,3 which has value -800.00 (Negative
800). I want to move this to a character field of length 11 which should
have value
as -800.00 only. But when I move to character field it goes as
00000800000}.

Is there any way by which I can get the result as expected? (I don't want
to
use CAT/SUBST/CHECK operations)

Thanks in advance
