Talking about V4.4 RPGIV: The support is very manual, you have to test or set the null indicator with the bif %NULLIND. If you need to work with null capable fields otherwise, don't do anything. The real problem is passing fields as parameters (prototyped or not) to other programs since the support of null capable fileds is only for database fields. I mean you cannot declare a field in D-spec as null capable neither you can define a DS from a PF expecting to get null capable fileds in the DS even if the original PF had null capable fileds. By the way how do you test if a field resulting from an embebbed sql statement is null? I don't know how to handle since is not the same as RPGIV. Somebody know other ways? --- ilechr@cbs.fiserv.com wrote: > > > Gentlemen and gentlewomen, > > At our company the tradition has always been to use > embedded SQL for retrieving > data from SQL tables for use in RPG programs. > > When I asked why the good old fashioned F spec and > opcodes SETLL, CHAIN etc were > not used the response was that null capable fields in the > SQL tables made this > an unreliable method to adopt. > > Question : Just how well can RPG4 handle null capable > input files?? > > Robert > > > > +--- > | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to > RPG400-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to > RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to > RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list > owner/operator: david@midrange.com > +--- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
