Sockets are end points in TCP/IP communications. It is how one computer
talks to another. They can also be used for interprogram communication
between processes running on the same computer. In a TCP/IP environment
each computer has an IP address and each process running TCP/IP
communications has a Socket that it reads & writes to. For more information
read up on TCP/IP programming and communications.

Hi all,
I have a question on sockets. Where can I find information on
sockets, This is the seconds time I have can across this function. What does
it do? Talk to some people that have been programming for over five years
and they could tell me what it does. Need information!
Thanks

Subject: Socket problem on V4R5

Folks:

We've run into a problem with a RPG programming that is communicating to
another RPG program over TCP/IP Sockets.

The program runs fine on a V4R3 system ... but when we try to run the
program on V4R5, it fails.

The specific problem is ... after successfully establishing a connection,
when we issue a write (passing the socket, address of output buffer, and the
length of the output buffer) we get a return code of -9 and a ERRNO of 3455
(EPIPE / Broken Pipe).

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

david
