That's true. I did forget to state that - I just kind of implied it by the 'IBM supplied' statement. I had put these cmds on my 'things to take with me if i move to another shop' list - thus being sure to keep the code. Then, I would have to check to be sure that no one else had a cmd by the same name that did something else...and so it continues. I have to keep in mind that there are some on the list that are new to this and be sure to not to inadvertently confuse them. Thanks, Peter, for reminding me what happens when I assume. <bg> jw ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: Re[2]: Fw: File in CL Program Author: "Peter Dow" <pcdow@yahoo.com> at Internet Date: 08/29/2000 2:41 PM Hi Jodi, You are correct except that RCVF is available on *all* AS/400's, whereas the READ, UPDATE, WRITE commands are only available where someone has installed them. As a programmer going in cold to an AS/400 shop, I know RCVF will be there, but even if READ, UPDATE and WRITE are there, how do I know they are the same as the homegrown READ, UPDATE and WRITE I used at the last shop I was in?
