That is because RPG's indicator data type is basically a character data
type.  You can (but shouldn't, of course) overload it onto a character data
type.  And, like C, '1' means 'true', while '0' means 'false'.  I'm not sure
about other values though; if that is the same as C, any value but '0' would
mean 'true'.  Never tested that.
