What is a "sorcerer"?

My babylon (www.babylon.com) translation utility doesn't know this one and
i'm wondering every time when this title of the redbook pops up here...

It could cause a riot (babylon knows this one :-) ? Can't stand it any
longer - what is it?

I know that translations are off-topic, but an off-topic-translation might
bring a word that doesn't give the desired meaning of the authors....
