I'll try to shed some light on why I asked this question. We are
running Notes on the AS/400, In one Notes app we are developing I need a
"Next Number to be assigned" function(Next Project Number in this case).
Where as this is a commonly needed function in RPG applications, it seems
Notes has a very hard time assiging "a Next Sequential Number" type thing.
In RPG I would chain to a control file, add one to the next number and
update the record and then pass back to the program that called me the
number I just got.

Well this ain't so easy in Notes so............

Notes can Call Java, Java (I asked) can call RPG, The RPG
program will assign the number, pass it back to Java, who passes it back
to Notes.

Programming used to be easier it seems.
