Hey David,

I missed the original question.So I am taking a guess that you need  multi 
format LF .We do something similar.

PF1 -- Order Header

REC1        ---
Fld1
Fld2

K Fld1

PF2      --- Order Detail
REC2
FLD3
FLD4
K FLD4


LF--

REC1        PFILE(PF1)
K FLD1

REC2        PFILE(PF2)
K FLD3


FLD1 AND FLD3 have the same attributes and in the program you read by the 
file name and not the RECORD name but you can record name to
update records to individual PF.we differentiate between them by Flags so 
update the corresponding PF.
