-What size monitor are you using? What resolution? Dialog boxes are appropriately sized on my set up. (imho) -Why on earth would you choose to use line commands in a PC editor? Pine or ELM, yes, I understand. But not in a PC editor . -I use TCP/IP over the net regularly and there is never a comm.line speed problem. Could there be a different reason for the slowness? -Type-ahead: with so many abbreviated words in the AS/400 world would that big a plus? -Seamless PDM interface? Doesn't the Ring provide that, and more? -Synchronize? I don't understand what you are asking. Your AS/400 doesn't allow two people to edit a single source document at the same time now does it? _______________________ Booth Martin booth@martinvt.com http://www.MartinVT.com _______________________ "Adam White" <adam@slic-systems.com> Sent by: owner-rpg400-l@midrange.com 06/01/2000 05:25 PM Please respond to RPG400-L To: <RPG400-L@midrange.com> cc: Subject: RE: PDM/SEU So, here's my wish list and if implemented, you never know, I might fork out on a real copy. - Make the prompting simpler (i.e. don't take up half the screen with a prompt box. In SEU, you can tell it to take two lines, why not in CODE?) - Line commands in CODE are kludgy at best, they sometimes work but most of the time they are infuriating! - Make the comms layer to the 400 reliable and work at a reasonable speed - Include the type ahead auto complete gizmos that Microsoft include so easily in their products - Give a seamless PDM like interface that supports exits as PDM does (maybe run them on the 400 or on the PC) - Ability to automatically synchronize source on the PC and 400. So that if someone make a change on the 400, I can still edit it on the PC without having to re-download it. So, IBM if you're listening, what are you doing to improve things???? ...Adam _\\// SLIC systems Ltd www.slic-systems.com -----Original Message----- From: owner-rpg400-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-rpg400-l@midrange.com] On Behalf Of Paul Tuohy Sent: 01 June 2000 20:20 To: RPG400-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: PDM/SEU Adam White wrote: > <snip> > The fact that it takes two days to learn (how long did it take you to learn > SEU?) <snip> Sorry Adam, but you are not comparing like with like. How long did it take you to learn SEU, SDA, RLU, PDM, and STRDBG? Hence the two day course. I recently introduced Code/400 in the RPG courses (III and IV). I give a brief demonstration of it (10 mins) at the start of the course and tell students that they can use it if they wish. They are usually up and running with little difficulty.
