If you use CPYSPLF to copy a printout, and the file name you use doesn't exist,
then the AS/400 creates its own file for you. This has only 1 field, and is 250
long, as you have seen.

If you create your own file via DDS, and then do a CPYSPLF to this file, then
all the fields you have defined will be in the .FDF object, allowing you to
break up the data as you require.

hi hth,

When I run a program like BOM200...I get a spool file, and I could use cpysplf
to save it to a PF..and then I could output it to PC, however all the colomns
are mixed together thus it's difficult to process the data in EXCEL file.

I use a component of IBM software Personal communication AS/400 which called
'data transfer' to get data from AS/400 to PC. if it's a PF database then all
the colomn informations are saved in another file with a suffix .FDF whiching
telling me how does the data in that file arranges. if it's a file getting by
CPYsplf then the format is always only one column which 250 long...

PCFDF
PCFT 1
PCFO 1,1,3,2,1
PCFL HQSPLF 1 250

Any idea?

thanks.

If the sole purpose of conversion of data to EXCEL is to retain column
formatting this too can be achieved employing the CPYTOPCD command having
already used CPYSPLF to populate a database file with the spooled output.

The following parameter on the CPYTOPCD command ensures that the format of the
records in the database is maintained in the eventual .TXT file.

 Format of PC data . . . . . . . TRNFMT *NOTEXT
