Excellent points. I was just today defining a ext. printer file for a program. Why? Only God knows. Many things we do are due to habit only. I believe I'll use an internally defined file now & scrap learning RLU for the, ..., oh gotta be the 10th time ! What a piece of crap. There are benefits to ext. printer files, but if it's a run-of-the-mill everyday report, why bother?! I suppose if one was able to design a system from scratch, you may find some sharing benefits.
