Also, if possible, you can temporarily hold an indicator in a variable,
use that indicator, then set it back to what it was, if it is a relatively
short area.  An example.

C    99                 MOVE  '1'    Hold99      1A
C  N99                MOVE '0'     Hold99

C                         READ   SOMEFILE               99
C    99                 MOVE 'NOT FND'  ERRMSG
