I believe the measure of success of this project will be in how generic each module can be, providing only a framework in which any number of specific "plug-ins" can be added to suit any particular company. There will never be one single "product" that is the be-all, end-all ERP package. But we might be able to build one single framework that was flexible enough to handle the basic functions by calling progressively more specific functions with more and more choices to be made at each fork in the decomposition path. This may be the impetus to finally get the common library of service programs off the ground that has been talked about so much on this list. It's been hard to contribute procedures to such a library when there was no particular need to be addressed. However, I've noticed that when someone has a specific request, like centering a string, we get dozens of specific examples submitted. Perhaps this project will give us many (thousands?) of specific needs that a particular procedure could be written for. So what if we wind up with hundreds of different ways to handle inventory? I'm sure they all will offer something constructive. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
