I never knew that ALCOBJ worked this way for DDM files - it's really cool!
The CL manual only makes brief mention of the difference when allocating a
DDM file (include extra WAIT time for the other system to respond) and there
is also a small blurb in the Distributed Data Management guide that explains
that an ALCOBJ on the local system applies the equivalent lock on the remote
system as well.

After  trying it out, I discovered that issuing the ALCOBJ command will dial
the phone for dial-up connections.  This behaviour of ALCOBJ may be useful
in other scenarios where we want a CL program to begin the communications
process before an HLL program gets to it.

Thanks for pointing this out - I've learnt something new!
