You would not need to "re-update" the file: run the trigger before insert, in the pgm bring in the file buffer, update that, send the buffer back out that you updated with the time stamps, and viola, you do not have to worry about "infinite loops" For you information on this; IE: how to check the archives, there have been other threads on "how-to" HTH Mark A. I know that's an awfully long sentence so I'll try to give an example. 1. A record is updated in a file 2. The update triggers a program 3. The trigger program updates a timestamp field, for example. Would step 3 cause the trigger program to execute again? +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
