This is not true. You don't have to change anything to debug your job. Your
job doesn't have to be running to start debugging it...

1. Place the JOBQ that your job runs in on hold
2. Submit your job
3. Use the STRSRVJOB command supplying the full qualified job name
(I normally place a '5' next to the submitted job and key in the command
                like this STRSRVJOB 999999/USER/JOB)
4. Issue the STRDBG command on the program to be debugged
5. Release the JOBQ
6. Press F10
7. Set your breakpoints

Note: If you are at V3R7? or higher, you can use STRDBG to source debug OPM
programs.
This lets you source debug really easily in batch.. Your program must be
compiled
     with *SRCDBG to allow this...

If you use the STRDBG command with source level debug, you must specify that the
debug
job is against an OPM program. Also, when the source is displayed (Before you
release the JOBQ),
just press F12.. You can't set breakpoints until the job has started.

Once the job starts, press F10, and the enter DSPMODSRC.. Set your breakpoints
and debug, debug, debug.

Subject: Re: batch job debugging

Use 'STRSRVJOB' (Start Service Job), supplying the fully qualified job name
(number/user/job). Once the service job has started, use STRDBG with your
program as normal. Note however that the job must be active before the STRSRVJOB
command is run. If debugging a short-running job, put in a DLYJOB if possible to
hold up processing until you have established your debug environment.

If your using STRISDB, use the F10 option to display the additional parameters,
and use *SELECT option for the 'Job to service' parameter. The same caveat as
regards the DLYJOB applies.

Hope this helps,
Dave Biggs
