So, what you're suggesting is an externally defined record layout
thats not part of a display...   something that we can write
records to, and read them from, without the need for an array.

Brilliant idea!

While you're at it... lets add the ability to create keyed access
paths off of this new object...   and the ability to sort it and
run queries on it!   Wouldn't that make it even more useful?

Hmmmmm....   what should we call this new thing...


Seriously though...  I've found that there are so many different ways
to store data...  physical files, IFS files, user spaces, MODS's,
arrays....   They're designed to do the things that you're trying to
do here...

So why use a subfile?   Whats the advantage to a subfile, UNLESS its
going to be a display?
