RPG wasn't my first language either, but it was the first one I used for processing database files. Never understood why people would not want to use the cycle. Our technical director, who also gives introductory courses to our new programmers, recently took a new approach: first he teaches them how to process a database file, including programming level breaks. After they master that, he shows how easy it becomes and how little code remains when using the cycle. > James is probably right, unfortunately he often is. I'm still to lazy to > learn it. (no > binary search suggestions, please--the one in the C library works great.) Well, have you finally found out about the lo(o)kup indicators? Maybe save yourself some work by using the cycle. But if you're happy programming your own event loops, by all means keep doing it. (I'm quite fond of reinventing wheels myself; that way I'm sure they are round).
