Just a heads up.  On V4R4, many of the API manuals are now under 
programming in the information center which can be accessed from the 
URL you listed.  The information center also comes on CD.

All of the AS/400 manuals are available online, if you don't have
another way to view them (such as a softcopy CD) you might want to
try that:

Specifically, the documentation about APIs is in the Application
and System Support bookshelf:

The system API programming manual has a number of examples of using
