I assume you're running the DNS server on the AS/400.  I used to run a DNS server on my 400, but the name resolution took about 50% of my system resources, and took like 30 seconds to resolve names.  the only fix that I know of is get a different DNS server.  I changed it to a FreeBSD name server, it's not as easy to set up, but it's not brain surgery either with a good FreeBSD book, but resolves super fast compared to the 400.

Hi All,

Here's one for the TCP gurus. We ping an IP address ie. "ping
'109.123.123.1'" and get an immediate response.

When we ping the host name ie "Ping Madeupname" it can take anywhere up to
30 secs to resolve to the IP address and do the actual ping. I can see
nothing obvious in the network status enquiry or in QSYSWRK.
