Through private e-mail, I discovered that at least one person found my comments below related to "style criticism" inappropriate or maybe just plain insulting. I've already apologised privately (I hope.) Just wanted to say that my use of the word "criticism" wasn't intended to imply hostility. I probably should have used "advice" or something else less emotionally loaded. I thought it was interesting that most people who responded to the original question mentioned the style issue, some before addressing the dynamic call issue. I said it, I take responsibility for it, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone. /* Offending screed */ > -----Original Message----- > From: Jon.Paris@halinfo.it [mailto:Jon.Paris@halinfo.it] > Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 1999 3:06 PM > To: RPG400-L@midrange.com > Subject: Re: Call or Bound Call > > > Almost every reply to the original posting included style criticism of the original code. I wouldn't code it that way (IFEQ) either, but so what? It's not real germane to the procedure/prototype issue. > > > C *in06 ifeq *on > - why not get rid of the ifeq (shudder) this is fine > C If *In06 > - or this if you have to code the *On > C If *In06 = *on > > Now on to your question <grin> > /* Big Snip */ > > > In other words the use of a prototype can save you from > having to match the > exact type and length of a parameter. Could I pass a 5 byte zoned in place of a 7 byte char, or is it the sort of thing that C does where you can implicitly typecast assignments from one numeric type to another? +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
