Qappdsn,

There would be a difference between 
CF  reade
and
CF read:e

reade is read where the key is equal to 

read:e
is a replacement for read(e)

If you are not familiar with operation extenders I recommend cracking 
the RPG manual.  Basically read(e) replaces doing a read with an indicator 
or two.  The (e) allows you to is the functions %eof and %error instead of 
the indicators.

I just read your post and saw, but have not yet read, the gazillion responses.
;-)

DON'T YOU DARE CHANGE reade TO read:e !!!

Now I don't mind, and fully appreciate, all you do to make life easier for
application writers like myself, but when you bring up something that would
require a revisit to half a gazillion programs you've got my attention.  And not
in a good way.
