It seems to me that most of the die-hard unix people are going to stick with C, perl, shell scripts, or one of the other 50,000,000 languages on the unix platform. However, having RPG on Unix (especially a free Unix like Linux or FreeBSD) would be a big boon to people who want to run something like this at HOME... Its nearly impossible to get an AS/400 at home, unless you've got huge amounts of cash to invest in it. :) Of course, the big problem with having a really good RPG compiler on a Unix machine (again, especially a free one like Linux) is that a company could set up a Unix machine on their LAN, move all their existing applications over, and get rid of the old AS/400. This is why I doubt IBM will ever write a compiler for Linux. On the other hand, though, theres something to be said for making RPG a more mainstream language. I mean -- lets face it -- its almost completely unknown outside of the IBM Midrange arena.
