It seems to me that most of the die-hard unix people are going to
stick with C, perl, shell scripts, or one of the other 50,000,000
languages on the unix platform.

However, having RPG on Unix (especially a free Unix like Linux or
FreeBSD) would be a big boon to people who want to run something
like this at HOME...

Its nearly impossible to get an AS/400 at home, unless you've got
huge amounts of cash to invest in it. :)

Of course, the big problem with having a really good RPG compiler
on a Unix machine (again, especially a free one like Linux) is that
a company could set up a Unix machine on their LAN, move all their
existing applications over, and get rid of the old AS/400. This
is why I doubt IBM will ever write a compiler for Linux.

On the other hand, though, theres something to be said for making
RPG a more mainstream language. I mean -- lets face it -- its
almost completely unknown outside of the IBM Midrange arena.
