John, >Now you are getting close to what I wanted from Toronto in the following. > > CL BEGCL >CL SNDPGMMSG XXXXXXXXXXXXX >CL MONMSG(CPFXXXX) >CL ENDCL Why not just make a subprocedure, RunCmd() or whatever, that accepts a string expression. But instead of calling QCmdExc, have it call QCAPCMD to run the command. Then you can easily get the msgid of an escape message to pass back as a return value. This would let you add a SELECT group following the RunCmd(...) to take action based on the escape message. Something like: C Eval ErrMsgId = RunCmd( 'SNDPGMMSG ' + C MsgText + ...) C Select C When ErrMsgId = 'CPF1234' C ... C When ErrMsgId = 'CPF5678' C ... C When %subst( ErrMsgId: 1: 5 ) = 'CPF90' C ... C Endsl This could be done quite easity now, even on V3R2 systems, and placed in a service program. As I've often said, subprocedures are the best thing to happen to RPG yet, and let us extend the language ourself instead of waiting for Toronto. (At least in cases like this -- not everything is doable yet.)
