Yes, "a raw RPG IV compiler with DDS support that targeted Windows
95/95/NT". I think that would be great.
Then all us RPG'ers could develop apps at home on our own PC's!

I can't speak for IBM, but Codestudio is going to come in two flavors.

1. The free/trial/student edition. This will do most of what the full
version will do, but be somewhat annoying to use. <g>
2. The Professional Edition. This will be the full product.

CodeStudio does not include an RPG compiler or syntax checker. Code/400
does.

As for VARPG, in my view it is a waste of effort programmer's time. If
we
had a raw RPG IV compiler with DDS support that targeted Windows
95/95/NT,
then we'd have something cool. I can use Visual C++, Visual Basic,
Delphi
and now Visual Cafe Java and get better results _every_ time.
