Thanks Scott, I now know why when I pass the entire address of "010.010.010.255" I get an error while "10.10.10.255" works. There is no Null Byte at the end. The %Trim(TcpAddr) does fill the field with nulls and not blanks when passing as a parameter. (Spaces if putting into an RPG character variable.) I do not know C therefore must take your word for the null-byte-terminated strings. It's the little things that take forever to over come. The application I am using in on a private intranet and has no central DNS server. I do not know the name of the host computer I am communicating to, only the TCP/IP address and port. I put the values into a data area instead of using the more complex host tables. I will try the GetHostByName function in the future when I have an application that can benefit.
