Ah, that is incorrect.  The job date and system date are totally different.

The job date is initally set to the system date when a job starts, but 
it can be changed after that.  It is retrieved using the UDATE variable.

The system date is set using system values and cannot be (easily)
changed by a running job.  It is retrieved (in a RPG program) using the 
TIME opcode.
