Bill,

Try looking into "File Redirection" in the Data Management guide.  File
redirection allows you to override file types -- with limited/mixed results.
The program will also have to be recompiled while the override is in effect.


Its been a while since I've played with this, but you should be able to
override the display file to a database file and open it as: INPUT, OUTPUT,
or INPUT/OUTPUT.

The IBM manual shows the override redirection combinations which are valid
and some of the limitations.  You can look here...
